A useful website price starts with the work the site must do. A five-page company profile, a product catalogue and a customer portal are different projects, even when their homepages look similar. For a Nigerian business, compare the complete scope and ongoing commitments rather than treating one advertised naira figure as the market price.
Separate the build from the running costs
Ask for the design and development fee, content responsibilities, domain registration, hosting, paid software and support to be listed separately. Confirm the currency and renewal terms of third-party services. A low initial quote can become expensive if essential features are excluded or ownership is unclear.
A quote should say whether enquiry forms, product entry, payment integration, migration, training and launch checks are included. “SEO included” also needs a definition. Technical page setup is different from an ongoing content and search programme.
Compare a realistic example
Imagine two service businesses. One needs six informative pages and a direct enquiry form. The other needs staff logins, appointment availability and reminders. The second project has workflows and failure cases to design, not simply extra pages. Asking both developers to quote “a business website” hides that difference.
What to send for an accurate quote
Prepare your services, intended audience, required pages, key features, available content and target launch. Mention existing hosting or a site that needs replacing. Explain any deadline dependency, such as an event or campaign.
When I scope a project, I want to understand the result you need before recommending a platform. You can explore my website design service, review selected work and send a project enquiry. If you are still organising the requirements, start with How do I write a website brief a developer can quote accurately?. The most useful comparison is a written list of deliverables, exclusions, ownership and support. That gives you something concrete to assess before paying a deposit.
