A community's Start Here page should reduce uncertainty for a new member. It needs to explain the purpose of the space, point to useful starting discussions and make the first contribution feel manageable. A decorative welcome message alone does not complete that job.

Connect the welcome to real destinations

The AIunipedia community uses a Start Here route and topic rooms to organise learning and discussion. Relevant internal links connect introductory material with practical conversations, guides and opportunities to ask questions.

This is information architecture work as much as writing. A new member needs to know where to begin, while a returning member should be able to find the appropriate room without rereading a long introduction.

Keep identity and product links accurate

The community credit is “Owned and run by Dr Fun and Michael Oracle.” Product links need to reflect the real destinations and development status. The Dictionary points to its live tool, AI Prof is presented as upcoming, and OraclePulse uses the correct personal-domain route.

Those details matter because a footer can quietly become a source of confusion. A polished page still loses trust when its links lead to the wrong domain or imply that an upcoming product is already available.

Evaluate the journey, not membership claims

The work improved content organisation, linking and visible destinations. It was not evidence of a particular membership growth rate or revenue outcome. Those results would need separate measurement over time.

Visit the community Start Here page, explore the AIunipedia project overview and my portfolio. My website design service can include organising a similar onboarding journey; describe your audience to begin.

Read Which pages does a small business website actually need? and How many internal links should a blog post have? for the general approach. A strong welcome page is useful because the destinations, explanations and first actions work together, not simply because it contains a lot of links.
