How many internal links should a blog post have?

A blog post should contain the internal links that help the reader take the next useful step. There is no universal link count that guarantees rankings. A small number of relevant links is better than repeatedly linking the same phrase to fill a target.

Link where the reader has a reason to continue

If an article explains website costs, link to the service scope and a guide to writing a brief. If it discusses form failures, link to the form case study and the relevant support service. The destination should answer the question created by the surrounding paragraph.

Use descriptive link text. “WordPress support” communicates more than several unrelated “click here” links. Make sure the wording accurately describes the destination, especially when linking to a product or project that has a particular development status.

Connect learning with evidence and action

A useful article can offer a practical answer, show related work and provide an enquiry route. Those links support different reader needs. Someone researching a problem may read another guide; someone ready to act may go directly to the service page.

For example, this blog links to my services, selected work and project enquiries, while related articles answer narrower follow-up questions. The purpose is navigation, not a promise that more links automatically produce more traffic.

Maintain the destinations

Use the preferred URL consistently. Check for redirects, missing pages and outdated references when you revise an article. A link that worked at publication can become misleading when the destination changes.

Read the finished article as a customer would. If each link has a clear reason to be there and leads to useful information, you have a stronger starting point than a fixed numerical rule.
