How long does SEO take, and what should I measure first?

SEO does not have a universal completion date. Fixing a blocked page can make it accessible immediately, while discovery, indexing and competitive visibility depend on further processing and the quality of the site. Ask for measurable work and evidence, rather than a guaranteed position by a fixed date.

Separate the stages

First establish that the site can be crawled and important pages are eligible for indexing. Then review whether those pages answer useful questions and whether their titles and internal links communicate their purpose. Ranking and enquiries are later outcomes to monitor.

Google's recrawl guidance notes that crawling can take time. Repeated requests do not turn the process into a guaranteed immediate update.

Track meaningful changes

Record when a page was published or materially improved. Monitor indexing, relevant query impressions, clicks and suitable enquiries. Compare comparable periods and note campaigns, seasonality or business changes that may affect demand.

For example, a new service page may first appear for a small set of relevant searches. That can be useful evidence even if total site traffic has not changed dramatically. Conversely, a spike in unrelated visits may do little for the business.

Ask what is included in the work

Technical fixes, content development, local information and ongoing reporting are different activities. A proposal should explain the priority, deliverable and method of checking each one. “Monthly SEO” without those details is difficult to assess.

I offer SEO support and can review the problem you want to solve. Explore selected work for context. Read Why is my new website not showing on Google yet? if discovery is the immediate concern and Why does my website get visitors but no enquiries? if visits are arriving without useful contacts.

A practical first objective is a technically accessible site with clear service pages and reliable enquiry measurement. Use the resulting evidence to decide what to improve next, while keeping ranking promises realistic.
